How I Changed My Life

I've been sitting here trying to put my thoughts into a blog post and I have to admit it's rather difficult. This post is extremely different than my usual posts, but to be honest it carries the most important message that I incorporate into my life every single day. I think we often have these little conversations within our heads, but the minute we try to say the words out loud we get confused and flustered. I've been held prisoner by my mind for years. I use the word prisoner because I felt so trapped by the consuming wave of thoughts that would flood my mind. I never understood why it happened or how to stop it. As I got older I began to realize how detrimental this overthinking is to my mind, body, and soul.

Okay, so I realized the problem but how do I fix it? I knew my anxiety and stress was stemming from my very own mind. So you think, okay just stop thinking those thoughts. Easier said than done. As I got older and began experiencing high stress situations, I felt my mental strength deteriorating. When I say my mental strength was deteriorating, I mean that the negative and anxiety filled thoughts were being pushed out into my mind more than before and magnified. As you get older you also understand yourself better. I began to embrace my emotional sensitivity and how I felt things more deeply than others. This is important because the minute you decided to accept yourself is the moment where you take the first step in understanding how to fix the problem, because let me be the first to say the problem is not you. The one aspect that hurt me the most is that I never let anyone have the slightest hint that I was struggling. Looking back I see that I was only letting everything build up and basically made everything worse.

One day I came across a book called The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I was never into meditation or mindfulness. To me it was like a foreign language and I had no idea what these topics even pertained to. At this point in my life I thought, hey what do I have to lose? I'm going to be brutally honest, this book is a tough read. Mainly because the topics being discussed go into great detail and he also introduces new definitions that pertain to the mind. I read this book on and off for a year in it's entirety. This is because I wouldn't sit there just to read it, I would read and study what these words were saying and take the time to process the truths behind it. I think that is what makes this book so unique is because to fully understand and apply it to your life, you will need to study it. Another reason why this book spoke so loudly to me is because I am not a religious person. I could get into a whole discussion of that but I won't. I've always lived my life with a very open mind and the religion I was raised in sometimes didn't align with my own beliefs. As I got older I began to learn about other religions and gave myself the opportunity to see how beautiful every religion is in it's own way. This is why I choose to be spiritual, because it gives me the freedom to believe in God but in my own way.

The biggest lesson I learned is to be aware of your thoughts and make sure you are constantly living in this very moment. This took months of practice and I am nowhere near where I want to be, but I can proudly say I have come a long way. My life feels more fulfilled and prosperous. I always felt that my life had to have a plan and I had to follow it exactly like I envisioned. NEWSFLASH, this is insane and unreasonable. My life has taken so many twists and turns and for a long time I fought against it. Now I refuse to fight what has been put before me this very moment. Instead I live every moment of my life with pure gratitude. I've heard stories and so many people say, "Be thankful and great things will happen". Do you know how many times I would roll my eyes when I heard that? Too many to count. Now I'm that person telling others to be thankful for every little thing they have. How ironic. Yet, I wouldn't change any of it because I had to be a skeptic before I could understand how important these messages are.

I cannot do this book justice by writing about what the book teaches. I think this experience is different for everyone and for me it helped me understand how to live a more positive life. I am a human being and I experience bad days, now I am able to work through it in a healthy way. I am able to work through my problems with a more clear and logical mindset. I see beauty in places that I never thought to look at.

If there is one piece of advice I can give it is this, do not take your mental health for granted and do not treat it like a stigma. Your mental health is what makes your life worth living and it is okay to find ways to make yourself better. Some people go to therapy and some people use books and meditation. There is no right answer and all you can do is find what works for you and run with it. I say this from the bottom of my heart, we live in a truly beautiful and wondrous world so realize that you play a part in that.

Summer Jewelry

During the warm summer months I always feel this magnetic pull towards boho chic jewelry. I love the cute ornate designs to it and it truly reminds me of summer.

I recently came across a cute online shop called Wildest Dreams. As I was looking through their accessories, I fell in love with their rings. It was hard not to buy them all but the ones I chose are truly beautiful.

I purchased the La Lune midi ring and honestly it can also be worn as a regular ring on smaller fingers. I also bought the tree of life ring because I love the meaning and spirituality behind it. Next I got the harmony amulet ring in Turquoise. I also bought the free spirit ring but it is currently on back order.

These rings were so reasonably priced and how cute are they?!

I have to say my favorite one is the La Lune ring, it's so dainty and cute! Go check out their awesome site! Also check out their Instagram @shopwildestdreams

How I Decorate My Vanity

So every girl knows that her vanity is her little space for her to make herself feel pretty and girly. Growing up I was always a very organized and clean young girl, which stayed pretty consistent as I got older. I've always felt it was very necessary to organize all my items exactly where they need to be. I try not to clutter my vanity and have found some cute things to spruce it up and keep everything organized. Okay fine I'll admit it.....I have OCD haha not even joking I get anxiety when my things are not clean and organized in their perfect little spot! Oh well I guess it could be worse!

I purchased my vanity from IKEA. It is actually a computer desk, but I loved the glass top and how it was narrow. I'm thinking of spray painting the frame white because I'm not sure I like the dark color too much. A glass top vanity or table is great because it gives the illusion of making a small room look bigger.

I hung my mirror on the wall as a DIY vanity. If doing this here is a little word of advice, give yourself room between the bottom of the mirror and the top of your vanity. This way you can sit other things on your vanity without it blocking anything or looking cluttered.

Deer Head: Hobby Lobby
Glass Vanity: IKEA

I wanted to have all of my favorite lip products right at my finger tips so I found an acrylic organizer at my local Walgreen's and have loved it!

I actually made my makeup brush holders from old Bath & Body Works candles. Once they were done I just scraped the excess wax out and cleaned it up. I bought the glass filler beads from Michael's Craft Store and wanted to choose a color for the beads. It's really great to re-purpose old materials that you have laying around.

Laptop Marble Skin: Uniqfind
Makeup Brush Holders: Re-used Bath & Body Works candles

So of course every girl has her ginormous stash of makeup and beauty products...well where's a girl to store all of her stuff?! I found a really nice 10-drawer organizer online at Wal-Mart. I liked it because it had frosty white drawers to go with my room. I store all of my products in there. I am getting ready to replace it though because it is not extremely sturdy and sometimes it is difficult to get the drawers in and out. For right now is does the job though!

Tray: Home Goods
Jewelry Holder: Marshalls

Thank you and I hope you get some fun tips and ideas from this post! Have a beautiful and wonderful day :)

No More Frizzy Hair !

I've lived my whole life with frizzy, curly, and unmanageable hair. I've tried every product and home remedy. After getting to know how to work with my hair I found my own little routine that helped a lot. My hair can get dry very easily so now I take it easy with any heat on my hair. On rare occasions I will blow dry it. Most of the time I like to air dry it and then straighten it on a very low heat setting.

The most important thing you need to do no matter what is put moisture back into your hair. If you want it to grow then you need to nourish it. You can do this with hair masks and deep conditioning treatments. Now ... if you have EXTREMELY dry and damaged hair then let's be reasonable and agree that a deep conditioning treatment might not do the trick. You will definitely need to trim any hair that is dead. Honestly dead hair will not grow back so protect the healthy hair you have and trim it!!

I use many different drugstore brand hair masks and love changing it up constantly. I use brands like L'Oreal and Garnier Fructis. They have so many different ones to choose from and they all work great, but don't expect miracles.

Twice a week the most important thing I do is put a castor oil mask on my hair.

NOW Solutions Castor Oil, 100 % Pure, 16 ounce

This is important because castor oil helps hair regrowth and to put natural nutrients back into your hair. When I put the oil onto my hair, I like to really massage it into my scalp because this also helps for hair stimulation and growth. I usually leave the castor oil mask in my hair for a couple of hours and then I wash it out. I promise you, you will see results immediately after you shower. Your hair will be softer, shinier, and no frizz.

My last step to help seal in the moisture, is to use Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Anti-Frizz Serum. This stuff is so amazing and once I put it in and let my hair air dry, I see amazing results.

Garnier Hair Care Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-frizz Serum, 5.1 Fluid Ounce

Here is a picture of my hair air-dried! I swear I didn't put any blow dryer or straightener to my hair! And let me tell you, this usually isn't possible for me. I found the right products for me and now I can say I absolutely love my natural hair!!

Dupe for ABH Pure Hollywood Lipstick!!

In the world of beauty we learn about new products and different brands. There is so much out there and so many amazing products. More times than we would like, the best products are the most expensive. So what do you do when this brand new product has caught your eye and you desperately neeeeeeed it?! Go to Google and search for a dupe. Frequently you will find a dupe for the product you want so badly.

Anastasia Beverly Hills has a gorgeous line of makeup. The most popular is her new line of lipsticks and the Pure Hollywood is a best seller. It is rather pricey, not too high, but still kind of expensive. I went online to search dupes before really deciding to purchase it. I found an awesome dupe by NYX. It is their matte lipstick in "Spirit". So I ran to my local Harmon's and picked it up. I love it and the color is so beautiful.

Enjoy this dupe and your wallet will thank you!
